Texas Tech University Center at Junction in Junction, TX, is dedicated to preserving the Upper Llano River, a pristine and vital ecosystem in the Texas Hill Country. The Upper Llano River faces challenges such as changes in spring flows, land fragmentation, loss of riparian habitat, and the encroachment of invasive species. To protect this natural treasure, a ten-year Upper Llano River Watershed Protection Plan has been initiated, comprising eight management measures with yearly targets, funding needs, and designated organizations responsible for their execution. This initiative aims to maintain the health and sustainability of the Upper Llano River ecosystem.
