High-quality patient care requires a committed nursing workforce that is fully engaged in its work and in a setting that empowers nurses to give the care they are trained to provide. In 2015, in light of the predicted nursing shortage, the Auxiliary Foundation created the Healthcare Scholarship Program for high school seniors. Scholarships are for those pursuing a career in the healthcare field, resulting in an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree. Possible studies include non-clinical as well as clinical areas. Dick Campbell, Executive Director says "Since students are living in our area, we hope that the program will assist with recruitment and (also) retention efforts of the hospital." Scholarships awarded to students provide $2,000 for up to 4 years provided they satisfy standards at their university or college.
