Religious Services and Rituals:

Hindus believe that by performing rituals they can get rid of hostile influences and at the same time attract beneficial ones so that they can make progress in their lives materially as well as spiritually without any impediments. The material aim of the rituals is to gain intellect, long life, health, pregnancy, strength, wealth, and cattle. From the standpoint of hygiene, performing various rituals washes out the impurities. It is also believed that the upanayana and vivaha samskaras with Vedic hymns enable a person to perform all kinds of sacrifices befitting an Aryan and increase his or her status in society. Thus the Hindu rituals have multipurpose. They have spiritual, health, material, and social purposes.

In addition, the rituals have a moral purpose as well since it also lay down the rules of conduct that should be followed by an individual with discipline. In turn, these rules of conduct help an individual to develop his or her personality. The rituals constitute the elements such as fire (Agni), prayers, appeals, and blessings, sacrifices, lustration, orientation, and symbolism.
