High Power Rifle is competitive shooting done with a high power rifle on standardized paper targets at distances from 200 to 1000 yards. Shooting of this type is conducted at matches throughout the year all over the country and culminates with the National Championships now held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana every July. The High Power Rifle shooting held at the Boulder Rifle and Pistol Club consists of 4 competitions held on Sunday of different weekends of the month.
High Power Monthly Match:
Also referred to as “across the course” consists of 4 stages where either iron sighted or scoped rifles are used:
- 20 rounds slow-fire standing in 20 minutes at 200 yards.
- 20 rounds rapid-fire sitting (2 strings of 10 rounds, 60 seconds per string) at 200 yards.
- 20 rounds rapid-fire prone (2 strings of 10 rounds, 70 seconds per string) at 300 yards.
- 20 rounds slow-fire prone in 20 minutes at 600 yards.
Each stage is preceded with 2 “sighter” shots in 2 minutes.
