Shoreline Restoration/Stabilization

MC-2 or more commonly known as Bird Island, is a 1.6 acre spoil island located east of Seawalls Point in the Indian River Lagoon. The island is considered to be one of the most important bird nesting sites in South Florida. The nesting site was being threatened by erosion resulting from boat wakes, currents and storms. To stabilize the shoreline, Ferreira built a reef system of over 2300 tons of lime rock adjacent to the island to protect it from the destructive effects of erosion and to help stem the loss of bird nesting.
